YouTube Down

YouTube, the hottest property in the video-sharing space, has been down since last night. Apart from a graphic on the homepage, there’s no word on what the problem might be, but YouTube’s phenomenal growth is surely a factor - it’s amazing that they’re lasted this long without any major outages.

The Most Infamous Movie Man Scream: The Wilhelm Scream

You've heard it dozens of times over the years in movies, video games and TV shows: a guy gets shot, thrown, falls, or gets blown up, and he lets out a scream. You've probably never realized that most of the time it was all the same guy screaming. "The Wilhelm Scream" has had a cult following among Hollywood directors and sound editors since it was first used in the 1950's, becoming something of an inside joke among filmmakers, especially George Lucas and Skywalker Sound, who've used the scream in every Star Wars movie made.

Originally used in the 1951 film Distant Drums when a man crossing a stream is bitten by an alligator and dragged underwater (a perfectly good excuse for a guy to scream), the sound effect got its name from its second use two years later when Pvt. Wilhelm takes an arrow to the thigh in The Charge at Feather River [pictured]. The scream has been attributed to actor and singer Sheb Wooley, most known among people not in The Business for his 1958 song, "Purple People Eater".

GTA IV will have 16 multiplayer for PS3 and 360

GTA4Gaming Excellence has managed to get some very interesting information pertaining to GTA IV at the PlayStation Holiday Preview Event held in Toronto recently. While GTA IV wasn't being covered at the event, Rockstar was in attendance to show off Manhunt 2.

Now GTA IV being GTA IV, this meant that the topic eventually came up and many of the usual questions were asked, BUT Rockstar had some notable items to divulge.

Firstly, the developers have been busy testing various plots and have even considered having the entire world unlocked for the player at the start of the game. GTA veterans will know that one of the staples of previous GTA games has been locked areas that can only be accessed by progressing past certain missions or pivotal story elements.

Some fans enjoyed this system, as it gave them incentive to move through the story and continue playing the game, while other fans found the system somewhat limiting and unecessary.

Secondly, and more importantly, Rockstar is aiming for a multiplayer component to compliment the singleplayer, with up to 16 players fighting it out in various multiplayer modes.

Of course, for PC users, this won't be such a ground breaking and new experience because modifications opened the door to multiplayer Grand Theft Auto III soon after its release for PCs. For console users however, the Grand Theft Auto series has been a strictly offline affair, so the possibility of multiplayer is a huge plus and will no doubt make up for the delays in the release of GTA IV.

GTA IV is slated for release in Q1-Q2 2008 on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Horror novelist suspected of killing, cooking girlfriend

An aspiring horror novelist was arrested after police discovered his girlfriend's torso in his closet, a leg in the refrigerator and bones in a cereal box, Mexico City prosecutor's spokesman said Thursday.

Police suspect he may have been responsible for two other mutilation murders as well.

Thee spokesman said Jose Luis Calva told police he had boiled some of his girlfriend's flesh, but that he hadn't eaten it. So that's alright then.

He said investigators were trying to determine if the chunks of fried meat found in a pan in the apartment were human.

Sting Op Of 10 Different Computer Repair Companies Finds 70% Don't Know What They're Doing

CBC Marketplace did a kickass hidden camera investigation into computer repair companies and found only 30% were able to correctly diagnose their problem.

One guy etells them they need to send their computer to a special dust-free room to retrieve the data, which would cost about $2,000. He even copies pictures from the customer's hard drive to his computer, promising he'll delete them later. Geek Squad makes an appearance and they don't do a very good job either

Woman runs over her own legs at a McDonalds drive thru!

Phoenixville News - Fri, Sep 28, 2007:

The Phoenixville Police Department is investigating a freak accident in which a borough woman ran over both of her legs in the drive-through lane at McDonald’s, 651 Nutt Rd., Friday afternoon.

According to Cpl. Pat Mark, a black Chevrolet Blazer, driven by a 53-year-old borough woman, was in the drive-thru lane at McDonald’s around 1:55 p.m. September 28.

“For some unknown reason, her legs were run over by her vehicle,” said Mark. “We are investigating how this accident could’ve happened.”

Woman dies in airport custody after becoming “irate” about missing her flight!

A woman late to her plane became irate, was put in handcuffs and was later found dead in a holding cell, police said. Authorities were investigating Saturday if the woman choked herself while trying to get free from the handcuffs.

Carol Ann Gotbaum, 45, of New York, was arrested Friday at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport after a conflict with gate crews who refused to allow her to board a plane, said Sgt. Andy Hill, a Phoenix police spokesman.

The airline said the plane was already preparing to depart. She was rebooked on the next flight, but “she became extremely irate, apparently running up and down the gate area,” US Airways spokesman Derek Hanna said Saturday.

Officers handcuffed her and took her to the holding room, where she kept screaming, authorities said. Hill said officers checked on her when she stopped screaming and found her unresponsive.

Hill said it appears Gotbaum may have tried to get out of her handcuffs, became tangled in the process and the cuffs ended up around her neck. A cause of death will be determined by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.

It can show films, video games or even photos uploaded by visitors, but most of the time it plays animations like swimming fish—all that space and what do they use it for? Screensavers.
